Who We Are

Frequent Questions

  1. Does SIDS really happen in Iowa?

Unfortunately, yes. The Iowa SIDS Foundation receives an average of 30 referrals each year of SIDS or SUID cases that happen in our state. SIDS is the leading cause of death of infants between 1 month and 1 year of age in the United States.

  2. Where can I find the most up-to-date safe sleep information?

The American Academy of Pediatrics reviews and updates safe sleep recommendations every 5 years. The most recent update was in June of 2022. The “back to sleep” recommendation has not changed since the original recommendation in 1993. You can find links to the AAP recommendations and other safe sleep information on our important links and resources page.

  3. How will my donation be used?

As a non-profit organization our services are completely dependent on donation dollars and grant awards. We promise to use each donation responsibly. On our donate page you can choose how you want your donation to be used. You can designate your donation to go toward general operating costs, outreach and family services (such as purchasing safe sleep spaces for those in need), or directly to SIDS research.

  4. How can I get involved?

The success of our services would not be possible without our amazing volunteers! Whether you are interested in becoming a Peer Contact, Walk Coordinator, Board Member, or sharing your talents and time elsewhere, we have a place for you! Find out more and fill out our volunteer interest form on our volunteer page.
